Kathak Kendra, the National Institute of Kathak Dance
is the premier dance institution of the country in the
field of dance education. It was established by the Central
Sangeet Natak Akademi in 1964 as one of its constituent
units. Since then the Kendra has been working with a motto
to sculpt professional performers in the fields of Kathak
Dance and eventually to promote this North Indian Classical
Dance style.
Kendra's main objective is to train proficient dancers
committed to pursuing the art as profession. To attain
this objective the training courses are designed with
great attention and in a manner to prepare artistes of
highest professional standards. Besides, the Kendra has
the dedicated service of a team of highly qualified and
eminent masters as its faculty member. As a result we
have been able to produce hundreds of capable Kathak dancers,
many of whom are now nationally and internationally well-known.
Over the years the Kendra has been wholly involved to
promote this North Indian Classical Dance style through
its innovative and promotional activities. Festivals,
seminars and workshops are organized in the Kendra through
out the year involving Kathak artistes from India and
