The Kendra's training programme has been carefully structured
and is comprehensive. Spread over a period of 13 years
the various courses can take a student through an elementary
foundation course (for school/college going students)
to the highest level of professional training. 13 years
training programmes of Kathak Kendra can be divided into
two parts on the basis of courses offered – Elementary
Course and Advance Level Course. Elementary course is
consists of 5-year Foundation Course and 3-year Diploma
(Pass) Course in total 8 years training programme. Whereas
the advance course has 3¬year Diploma (Hons.) Course and
2-year Post Diploma Course. The classes for elementary
courses are conducted in the Peripheral and Accredited
Centres of the Kendra and the advance course is carried
in the main Kendra.
Elementary Courses:
Elementary Course is being provided mainly to encourage
school/ college going students. This course has been designed
for the purpose of promoting this form of dance amongst
young talents and serves as a feeder course for advanced
level course of the Kendra. Classes are held in the afternoon
session between 3.00 pm to 7.00 pm on three days in a
week.
5-Year Foundation Course Age Limit: 9 to 14
years Minimum Education Qualification: Class 3rd Pass
Technical Qualification: Entrance Examination
would be undertaken for seeking admission for this course,
in which students are tested for their graceful body movements,
aptitude and sensitivity to rhythms.
3-Year Diploma (Pass) Course Age Limit: 14 to
19 years Minimum Education Qualification: Class 8th Pass
Technical Qualification :
Regular students who have passed the foundation course
of the Kendra with at least 60% marks OR any outsider
who, if not gone through the foundation course of Kendra
but possesses an equal training, in terms of content and
style, is eligible to apply for this course. The eligible
applicants will have to go through a practical admission
test. Selection of trainee will purely on meritorious
basis.
Advance Courses
This is a full time course, specially designed to prepare
students for a high standard performance potential so
that after completing the course, he/she can become a
successful stage artist. This is an advance level full
time course, designed with a view to prepare the students
for acquiring performance capabilities of high professional
standards. After completing the course, he/she can become
a Kathak soloist and can assume the responsibilities of
a teacher. Besides the primary dance course, a student
in the Diploma (Hons.) course will have to undergo training
in Vocal (Hindustani Classical) / Tabla / Pakhawaj as
allied subjects. Training in Yoga is also compulsory for
the students of this Course. Knowledge of theoretical
aspects of dance brings depth in dance. For this purpose,
theory classes are organized regularly. Classes are held
for six days in a week between 9.00 am to 7.00 pm. Number
of seats available for admission to the first year of
the course is limited to 20. No direct admissions are
given in 2nd Year and onwards.
3-Year Diploma (Hons.) Course Age Limit : 17
to 22 years Minimum Educational Qualification: 10th Pass
Technical Qualification : Regular students who
have passed the Diploma (Pass) course of the Kendra with
at least 60% marks OR any outsider who, if not gone through
the Diploma (Pass) course of Kendra but possesses an equal
training, in terms of content and style, is eligible to
apply for this course. The eligible applicants will have
to go through a practical performance test and an interview
thereafter. Selection of trainee will purely on meritorious
basis. Number of seats available for admission to the
first year of the course is limited to 20.
2-Year Post Diploma Course Age Limit : 20 to
26 years Minimum Educational Qualification: 12th Pass
Technical Qualification: Diploma (Hons.) passed
students of Kendra with atleast 65% are eligible to apply
for Post Diploma course. The eligible applicants will
have to go through a practical performance test dance,
vocal and percussion instrument playing, followed by an
interview. Selection of trainee will purely on meritorious
basis. Number of seats available for admission to the
first year of the course is limited to 20.
5-Year Diploma Course in Tabla/Pakhawaj
Considering the importance of Tabla and Pakhawaj accompaniment
with Kathak Dance, this 5 year special course has been
prepared. Classes for the course are held 6 days a week
between 12.00 a.m. to 7.00 p.m. Maximum 5 students can
be admitted in the first year of this course on the basis
of entrance exam.
Age Limit : 14 to 22 years Minimum Educational Qualification:
10th Pass Technical Qualification: Talented candidates
must have aptitude for percussion playing and sensitivity
to rhythms so that the student could become a capable
Tabla / Pakhawaj Artist.
