Sangeet Pratibha: Patiala - 28th to 31st December 2006

Sangeet Pratibha, a festival of young musicians focusing on musical talent in northern India, was held from 28 to 31 December 2006 at the Central State Library Hall, Patiala, in collaboration with North Zone Cultural Centre. The festival performances were
presented by 24 artists, mostly from the northern States of Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, and Uttarakhand. Besides, artists from Patna, Delhi and Karnataka were invited. Performances included Hindustani vocal music, both
Khyal and Dhrupad, as well as Hindustani instrumental music on Sitar, Sarod, Sarangi, Dilruba, Santoor, Shehnai, Guitar, Tabla and Pakhawaj. To give the audience a wider understanding of India's classical music, two performances of Carnatic music were also included: one on Veena and the other, a percussion ensemble of southern tradition. The festival was well received
by the people of Patiala. The programme follows:
