Under its scheme of Assistance to Playwrights in
Indian Languages, a two-day meeting of young playwrights
was held on 30 and 31 March 2007 at Kaustubh Conference
Hall, Rabindra Bhavan, New Delhi.
The Marathi playwright Satish Alekar, an Award- winner
of the Akademi, chaired the meeting on both days.
The deliberations centred around various problems
of playwrights. Training of upcoming writers and research
assistance to senior playwrights were
also among the topics discussed. The participating
playwrights shared their experiences of theatre activities
in their respective regions. Sixteen playwrights attended
the meet including Satish Alekar (Pune), Sachin Kundalhar
(Pune), Swar Thounaojam
of Manipur (Bangalore-based). Mrinal Bora (Nagaon,
Assam), Manav Kaul (Mumbai), Asif Ali (Patna), Preet
Mohinder Sikhoh (Patiala), Arjun Deo Charan (Jodhpur),
and Javed Akhtar (Patna).
