Sangeet Natak Akademi Awards - Awards Ceremony & Festival

The General Council of the Akademi, which met on 27 December 2006 and 15 February 2007, elected
five eminent personalities in the performing arts as Akademi Ratnas (Akademi Fellows). The General
Council also selected 33 eminent artists for Akademi Puraskar (Awards) for the year 2006. The Akademi
Ratna (Fellowship) and Akademi Puraskar (Awards) carry a purse of Rs. 50,000, a shawl, and a tamrapatra.

The Akademi Award presentation ceremony was held in Kamani Auditorium, New Delhi on 1 March 2007.
The Awards were presented by the President of India, Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, in the presence of Shri Ram
Niwas Mirdha, Chairman of the Akademi, and Shri Kavalam Narayana Panikikar, Vice-Chairman.
