Sangeet Natak Akademi's scheme 'playwrights Workshops in Indian Languages' is meant to encourage young writers to write new plays in Indian languages. The scheme was launched in response to the long-felt need of theatre workers all over the country for new plays, and for dialogue and interaction between directors and writers.

A workshop for playwriting in Telugu was held at the School of Performing Arts, Hyderabad in February 2002. Experts from other States were also invited to the Workshop.
