A constituent unit of Sangeet Natak Akademi, Kathak Kendra housed in Bahawalpur House,  is one of the leading dance-teaching institutions of the country. Established in 1964, it offers several courses in Kathak Dance as well as allied subjects like vocal music and Pakhawaj.

The main objective of the kendra is to train proficient dancers comitted to pursuing the art as a profession.

Academic Session (Ist July to 15th May)

1. A (part-time) four  years Foundation Course in dance for the age group 7-16
2. A (part-time) three years  Diploma (pass) Course for the age group 13-22 years
3. Three year Diploma (Honours) course for age group 16-24 years.
4. A two years Post-Diploma Course for the age group 19-26 years
5. Two years prepratory coursen before admission to Diploma (Honours) course to take proper initial training.

The Production Unit of the Kathak Kendra is a well known repertory of Kathak Dance and music. The unit has contributed towards expansion of the repertoire of the Kathak dance style.

The Management of the Kendra vests in the Executive Board of Sangeet Natak Akademi which is assisted by an Advisory Committee. The Chairman of the Advisory Committee is the Vice-Chairman of the Sangeet Natak Akademi.
