Films of the Akademi briefly described:

1.    Ustad Bade Gulam Ali Khan:(1965/ 29min.)

A biographical film on one of the foremost vocalist of the Patiala Gharana.

2.    Ustad Allauddin Khan(1965 / 22 min.)

A biographical film on the outstanding artist and teacher in the field of Hindustani music.

3.    Ramayana in Koodiyattam & Kathakali( 1973/21 min.)

Provide glimpses of a few episodes from Ramayana through  the traditional dance theatre forms of Kutiyattam and  Kathakali.

4.    Chhayanatak(1977/20 min.)

A film on traditional shadow-puppet theatres of Orissa, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka.

5.    Folk & Tribal Dances of India(1977/18 min.)

Provides glimpses of folk and tribal dances of Arunanchal Pradesh, Nagaland, Himachal Pradesh, Goa, Karnataka, and Madhya Pradesh.

6.    Tanavaram(1980/31min.)

A film on the Tanvarnam in Bharatnatayam style performed by Leela Ramanathan.

7.    Sangai: Dancing Deer of Manipur  (1987/44min.)

A fiction film based on Keibul Lamjao, a dance-drama produced by Jawahar Lal Nehru Manipur Dance Akademi with an accent on conservation of wildlife.

8.    Bhootaradhana(1988/22min.)

A film based on an indigenous cult of worship practiced in coastal Karnataka, with strong performative elements.

9.    Semmangudi(1992)

A compilation from archival material on the life and work  of eminent Carnatic vocalist Semmangudi R. Srinivasa Iyer.    Available in three versions: 20,30,60 minutes.

10.    Parvati Viraham(1993/35min.)

Excerpts from the Parvati Viraham in Kuttiyattam form, featuring Mani Madhava Chakyar as  Ravana.

11.    Kanglai Haraoba(1993/36min.)

Provides glimpses of one of the Haraoba festivals of Manipur featuring Rajani Maibi.

12.    Mani Madhava Chakyar: The Master at Work(1994/30min.)

A biographical film on the life and work of Mani Madhava Chakyar, one of the leading gurus in Kutiyattam.

13.    Behdeinkhlam:(1994/16min.)

A film on the Behdeinkhlam festival '94 of the Panars of the Jaintia Hills of Meghalaya.

14.    Ang Tarang: Mayurbhanj Chhau(1995/17min.)

A film on the Chhau dance of Mayurbhanj, Orissa.

Provides glimpses of the life and work of Pandanallur Subbaraya Pillai, leading Bharatanatayam teacher.
